Visiting Professor Dr. Zeng Qingying Lectures in our College

On November 12, our visiting professor Dr Zeng Qingying makes a lecture on “the 254th Cave in Mogao Grottoes and Decoration Art of Northern Wei Dynasty”. More than 200 teachers and students mainly from School of Fashion Design, School of Art and School of Architecture participate in the lecture.

Miss Zeng graduates from Stanford University and Harvard University and majors in East Asia area study. And then in 2013, she received the doctor's degree on Orientalism in the University of Oxford. Now she is doing postdoctoral research on the Sino-India cultural exchanges in early northern Wei dynasty reflected from Mogao grottoes in Beijing University.

In lecture, Miss. Zeng explores rich connotation and value about the Mogao grottoes, Yungang and Longmen grotto. She points out: “Many popular designs and images we use today have actually been adopted thousands of years ago.” Then, Miss. Zeng interprets Fly Apsaras, coffered ceiling, honeysuckle and other decorations in the 254th Cave and vividly represents the ancient Silk Road. In the end, as the treasure of world history and Chinese culture, our students should on the one hand make use of them and on the other hand inherit such traditional culture of Chinese nation.

Ms. Huang Xiaoping, Vice President, concludes as following: we need both creativity and comprehensive knowledge of history, religion and culture. Only in this way can we create classic art.
